Silver DofE Pupils Rise to the Challenge in the Peak District

The first weekend of the summer holidays saw our Silver Duke of Edinburgh's Award participants take on their Qualifying Expedition in the stunning White Peak area of the Peak District.

Over three days, pupils navigated independently from Matlock Bath to Millers Dale, covering an average distance of 42 kilometres and conquering an impressive 1,400 metres of ascent. Their route took them through dramatic limestone landscapes, across open farmland and through picturesque villages, showcasing some of the UK's most beautiful countryside.

The expedition presented a variety of conditions, with periods of rain adding an extra layer of challenge before giving way to warm sunshine and spectacular views. Throughout the journey, pupils demonstrated outstanding resilience, teamwork and determination, adapting to changing conditions while confidently navigating between checkpoints and managing all aspects of camp life independently.

The final day saw groups complete their expedition along the historic Monsal Trail, providing a fitting opportunity to reflect on everything they had accomplished over the previous three days. Their success is a testament not only to their physical endurance, but also to the planning, problem-solving and collaboration that lie at the heart of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

We believe education extends far beyond the classroom. Outdoor education complements academic learning by giving pupils the opportunity to apply critical thinking, communication and leadership skills in real-world settings. Through experiences such as the Duke of Edinburgh's Award, pupils develop resilience, resourcefulness and self-belief - qualities that underpin success at school, university and in life beyond education.

We are delighted that every participant successfully completed the walking element of their Silver Duke of Edinburgh's Award Qualifying Expedition. It was a fantastic way to round off a busy and successful academic year, and we congratulate all of our pupils on this outstanding achievement.
