Radnor House Sevenoaks Pupils Win IAPS Regional Debating Competition
Pupils at Radnor House Sevenoaks are celebrating debating success after Lower School pupils Matilda and Aanav won the regional round of the IAPS Debating Competition.
Representing Radnor House Sevenoaks against a strong group of local schools including Solefield, Dulwich Cranbrook and Somerhill, the pair impressed judges with their confident delivery, clear reasoning and thoughtful argument. Their victory secures them a place at the IAPS National Debating Finals, to be held this May at Merchant Taylors' School.
Tackling Modern Issues Through Debate
The Radnor House Sevenoaks team debated two challenging and topical issues: the role of artificial intelligence in education and the proposed ban on social media for under-16s.
Across two closely contested rounds, Matilda and Aanav demonstrated impressive composure and maturity, constructing balanced arguments and responding persuasively to opposing viewpoints. Their ability to analyse complex issues and communicate ideas clearly under pressure proved key to their success.
Headmaster David Paton said:
“We are thrilled to celebrate the success of Matilda and Aanav in the regional round of the IAPS Debating Competition. Their poise, intellectual curiosity and clarity of expression were outstanding, and we are immensely proud of their achievement. We look forward to supporting them as they prepare for the National Finals.”
