Year 3 and 4 Explore Organic Farming at Bore Place Farm
Year 3 and 4 recently enjoyed a wonderful day of outdoor learning at Bore Place Farm, where they explored the workings of an organic dairy farm and deepened their understanding of plant life cycles, sustainability and the natural environment.
The day began with an informative tour of the farm, where the children had the opportunity to meet the farm’s organic dairy cows. They were fascinated to learn about the cows' varied and nutritious diet, made possible by the many different wildflowers growing in the surrounding fields. This sparked conversations about biodiversity, organic farming, and how the quality of the cows' diet directly affects the milk they produce.
Next, the pupils took part in an interactive "Sow and Grow" workshop, where they explored the life cycle of plants from seed to harvest. One of the highlights of the day was the "Germination Game", where the children enthusiastically acted out the different stages of seed growth - bringing biology to life in a memorable and playful way.
The students also got their hands dirty creating seed bombs, which they happily scattered around the grounds of Bore Place. This not only supported the farm's wildflower planting but also helped the children understand the importance of seed dispersal and caring for the environment.
With beautiful sunny weather, the day was rounded off with plenty of time for outdoor games, free play, and exploring the open space - a perfect end to a hands-on learning experience that blended education, environmental awareness and lots of fun.
The trip was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to engage with nature, develop their curiosity about the world around them, and understand the importance of sustainable farming and protecting our ecosystems.
