Archway Curriculum in Action: Year 5 & 6 Visit the Natural History Museum
Year 5 and 6 enjoyed an exciting and inspiring day at the Natural History Museum as part of their ‘From Core to Peak’ Archway Curriculum topic, bringing their classroom learning about the Earth’s structure, volcanoes and earthquakes vividly to life.
A highlight of the trip was the interactive Volcano Show, where pupils took on the role of emergency scientists tasked with saving a town from an impending volcanic eruption and earthquake. Working together, they applied their growing geological knowledge, quick thinking and teamwork to successfully solve the challenge. The workshop was fast-paced, engaging and a real favourite among the pupils.
Students also explored the fascinating journey through the Earth’s layers, travelling from the inner core to the crust and learning more about the powerful forces that shape our planet. Another memorable moment was visiting the Earthquake Simulator, where pupils experienced what a real earthquake might feel like and discovered how engineers design buildings to withstand seismic activity.
Throughout the day, the pupils showed great curiosity and enthusiasm, asking thoughtful questions and demonstrating an impressive understanding of the topics they have been studying this term. Their behaviour and engagement were exemplary and they represented Radnor House wonderfully.
It was a fantastic day of discovery, with plenty of shaking ground, erupting ideas and learning that truly took our pupils from the Earth’s core to its highest peaks.
