Leading with Excellence: Strengthening Educational Practice Through IAPS

Radnor House Sevenoaks is proud to celebrate the nomination of Mr Godwin, Head of Prep, as the new Chair of the IAPS Head’s Group, for the local district of IAPS registered schools - a role that reflects not only his leadership, collaborative spirit and professional integrity, but also the strength and standing of our school within the independent sector.

The Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) is one of the most respected professional bodies in UK education. Membership is voluntary and selective, bringing together hundreds of prep schools nationwide that commit to the highest standards of academic excellence, safeguarding, pastoral care and professional development.

For Radnor House Sevenoaks, IAPS membership is far more than a badge of quality; it represents a dynamic network of expertise, innovation, and mutual support that strengthens the experience of all Prep pupils and staff every single day.

Why IAPS Matters to Radnor House Sevenoaks

1. Access to national expertise and sector leadership

Through IAPS, our school has direct access to a nationwide network of leaders, specialists and subject experts. Whether discussing curriculum development, navigating complex educational policies, or sharing best practice, IAPS provides a platform for meaningful professional exchange that supports high-quality decision-making at school level.

2. Outstanding continuous professional development (CPD)

IAPS offers a rich portfolio of training for educators at every stage of their career - from classroom teachers to senior leaders.  Our teaching staff benefit from a wide array of opportunities such as:

  • National Professional Qualifications (NPQs)
  • Regular subject-specific networks
  • Leadership development programmes
  • Workshops across sport, performing arts, languages, pastoral care and more

This ensures that our teachers remain lifelong learners - forward-thinking, reflective, and equipped with the latest educational insights.

3. A strong network for subject leaders

Every school in the district nominates leads for key subject and pastoral areas. These leads meet regularly, share resources, and collaborate on curriculum development. This system ensures that Radnor House Sevenoaks remains connected to national trends and emerging pedagogical thinking across every discipline.

4. Enrichment opportunities for pupils

IAPS enhances the educational landscape for our pupils through opportunities such as:

  • Debating competitions
  • General knowledge events
  • Music and performance opportunities
  • A renowned network of sporting events
  • Chess, academic contests and other enrichment pathways

These experiences broaden horizons, develop confidence and connect our children with peers from across the region.

5. A community of support in a complex educational environment

Education can sometimes feel isolating - particularly for senior leaders who must navigate challenges unique to headship.  IAPS provides a secure environment for professional discussion, support, and problem-solving. It also offers specialist advice in areas like HR, finance, and compliance - vital for smaller independent schools and beneficial for all.

In short, IAPS helps ensure that Radnor House Sevenoaks remains progressive, outward-looking, and committed to delivering the best possible provision for every pupil in our care.

Recognising Excellence in Educational Leadership

We are delighted to congratulate Mr Godwin on this nomination. His commitment to connection, professional growth and collective improvement, aligns perfectly with our school values.  The role is ambassadorial, collaborative and centred on raising the quality of provision for pupils across the entire district.

His leadership within IAPS will not only strengthen the local of area of schools but will continue to enrich the learning environment here at Radnor House Sevenoaks ensuring that our staff have access to the best training, our pupils enjoy exceptional opportunities, and our school remains at the forefront of educational excellence.

Despite the significance of the appointment, Mr Godwin speaks of it with humility. His focus remains firmly on the collective benefit for pupils, staff, and schools across the independent sector.  Mr Godwin - we know you will make a thoughtful, insightful and inspiring contribution to this important role.
