Year 9 Conquer the Great Outdoors on Bronze DofE Expedition

What an adventure! Our Year 9 pupils tackled their Duke of Edinburgh expedition with determination, enthusiasm and great success.  Over the course of their adventure, students not only developed practical outdoor skills but also displayed exceptional resilience, teamwork and independence - core values at the heart of the DofE programme.

Across the two-day expedition, pupils navigated their own routes through challenging terrain, demonstrating impressive map-reading and orienteering skills. Working in teams, they set up camp, prepared their own meals using camping stoves, and managed their time and resources with increasing confidence and maturity.

Of course, no true expedition is complete without a few unexpected hurdles—be it unpredictable weather, aching feet, or a detour or two! But it was through these challenges that the real learning took place.  Students supported one another, adapted to changing situations and kept spirits high with encouragement and perseverance - embodying Radnor’s shared values of courage and resilience, throughout their journey.

The trip offered a fantastic opportunity for personal growth, giving each pupil the space to step out of their comfort zone and develop vital life skills. Whether it was carrying their own gear, cooking for the first time, or solving problems as a team, every participant rose to the occasion.  All groups finished the tiring two days and successfully passed the expedition section, and we are very proud of how each student has embraced the experience.

A huge thank you to the staff who supported the trip and to our families for the ongoing encouragement and enthusiasm.  Everyone's support plays a vital role in making experiences like this so impactful and memorable.
