Aspiring Medic Lawrence Attends Prestigious Medical Futures Conference

We are delighted to share that Lawrence, one of our aspiring medics at Radnor House Sevenoaks, recently attended the prestigious Medical Futures Conference at Concord College - an exceptional opportunity designed to give students meaningful insight into the realities of a career in medicine

The immersive conference brought together specialists from a wide range of disciplines, including podiatry, general practice, cardiology and rheumatology. Throughout the day, Lawrence engaged directly with clinicians, asking thoughtful and perceptive questions that prompted extended discussions. Several doctors commented on the quality of his contributions, with one noting that his questions were already at medical student level, while another praised his excellent hand–eye coordination.

Hands-On Medical Experience

A particular highlight of the day was the opportunity to take part in advanced practical sessions. Under expert guidance, Lawrence:

  • Practised a keyhole surgery simulation
  • Drew blood from a training model
  • Prepared a patient simulator for general anaesthetic alongside representatives from the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity
  • Explored emergency procedures and clinical decision-making
  • Took part in a hands-on ultrasound demonstration, examining his own joints

These experiences provided invaluable insight into both the technical and human aspects of medicine, helping to bring classroom learning to life.

Learning from Experts and Leading Universities

In addition to practical workshops, the conference featured inspiring keynote speakers, including renowned ophthalmology specialist Dr Sancy Low. Lawrence also had the opportunity to speak with university representatives and current medical students from leading institutions including the Universities of St Andrews, Imperial, Lancaster, UCL, Cambridge and Nottingham

These conversations offered valuable guidance on university pathways, applications and the realities of medical training.

Experiences such as this reflect the depth of opportunity available to students at Radnor House Sevenoaks. By combining academic rigour with enrichment beyond the classroom, we support aspiring medics like Lawrence in developing the knowledge, confidence and practical insight needed for the next steps in their journey towards a career in medicine.

We are incredibly proud of Lawrence for embracing this opportunity with such enthusiasm and maturity, and we look forward to seeing where his ambitions take him next.
