Radnor Students Win Record Gold Medal Haul at UK Maths Challenge 

Students from Radnor House Sevenoaks have achieved a record-breaking success in the prestigious Junior Maths Challenge, earning an impressive 29 awards across the board. This year's results mark the best performance in the school’s history, with Radnor students securing five gold, ten silver, and fourteen bronze certificates - a testament to their hard work and mathematical ability.

A special congratulations goes to Andrea (Year 8), who not only secured a gold certificate but was also awarded Best in Year 8.  As one of the school’s top scorers, Andrea has also qualified for the Junior Kangaroo, a selective follow-on round reserved for the highest achievers nationally.  Congratulations are also due to Luca (Year 7), who earned a silver certificate and was named Best in Year 7.

The Junior Mathematical Challenge is a nationally recognised competition run by the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT).  Aimed at students in Years 7 and 8, the challenge consists of a 60-minute multiple-choice test completed under exam conditions.  The questions are designed to go beyond the standard curriculum and require students to apply their problem-solving, logical reasoning and mathematical thinking skills in creative in ways.

Not only does the challenge provide an opportunity for students to extend their mathematical knowledge, but it also helps them to develop valuable time management, strategic thinking and organisation skills - important skills for academic success across all subjects.

Head of Maths, Mr Charles commented, "We are absolutely thrilled with this year’s Junior Maths Challenge results and making Radnor House history.  Achieving five Gold Awards in a single entry is a first for us, and testament to the dedication and talent of our students.  Their enthusiasm for mathematics and willingness to tackle difficult problems is truly inspiring.  It also reflects the focused work the Maths Department has undertaken during the last 12 months in strengthen problem-solving skills across all year groups.  We’re proud of both our students and staff for their continued commitment to excellence."
