Behind the Scenes of School of Rock: A Student Reflection

Being part of School of Rock has been an unforgettable experience. Watching the production evolve - from those very first script read‑throughs to the high‑energy musical numbers on performance night – it has been incredibly rewarding. I am genuinely proud to have been a part of such a dynamic, joyful, and collaborative project.

Every student contributed something essential to the success of this production. Whether in the cast, crew, or band, each person helped shape the heart of the show, and it was wonderful to see everyone come together with such commitment and enthusiasm.  As with any school production, we faced a few ups and downs along the way, but our shared love of performing carried us through, and the final outcome was something we could all celebrate.

Both performance nights were truly special. The moments backstage; the quiet ‘good lucks’, whispered ‘break a leg’, and supportive smiles all created a sense of unity that made us feel like a genuine company. Standing together, knowing we had each other’s backs no matter what happened, was incredibly powerful.  And then came the best part: sharing our hard work with the audience. The atmosphere on those nights was electric and hearing the applause erupt!  I knew every rehearsal, every late finish, and every run‑through had been worth it.

One of the things I have valued most about this production is the friendships I formed along the way. Collaborating with students from other year groups, some of whom I would never normally cross paths with, has been enriching and has made this experience even more memorable.

Mrs Mitten, Director of School of Rock, shared her own reflections on the process, saying:

“I have absolutely loved working with the students on this production. It has been wonderful to collaborate with them in a completely different way from teaching PSHE in the classroom. Seeing their creativity, teamwork, and passion come alive on stage has been a genuine privilege.”

Thank you to all the teachers, students, and supporters who made School of Rock possible. Your dedication created an incredible opportunity for all of us, and I cannot wait to see what production we take on next year!
