Excellence in Oracy: Debaters Secure Runner-Up Position in the ESU Mace Regional Final
Radnor House Sevenoaks is delighted to celebrate the success of our senior debating team, Yarl, Millie and Alex in Year 13, who finished as runners-up in the regional final of the prestigious ESU Mace competition last night.
Competing against a strong field of schools, our students delivered an impressive performance, demonstrating confidence, clarity of thought and the ability to engage persuasively with complex issues. Their teamwork and composure under pressure were evident throughout the final, reflecting both their preparation and commitment.
At Radnor House, debating is a key part of developing well-rounded, articulate and intellectually curious students. It encourages young people to think critically, consider multiple perspectives and express their ideas with confidence and respect. These are essential skills not only for academic success, but for life beyond school - equipping students to communicate effectively, challenge ideas thoughtfully and engage meaningfully in the world around them.
The ESU Mace, organised by the English-Speaking Union, is one of the UK’s most respected debating competitions for sixth form students. Reaching the regional final is a significant achievement, and securing a runner-up position highlights the high standard of debating at Radnor House Sevenoaks.
We are incredibly proud of our senior debaters for representing the school with such distinction and congratulate them on this outstanding accomplishment.
