Gold Duke of Edinburgh Students Tackle the Lake District in Spectacular Style

Our Gold Duke of Edinburgh students have just returned from a truly memorable adventure—their practice expedition in the awe-inspiring Lake District. Over four days and three nights, a group of 16 students embarked on an epic 55–60km journey through some of the UK’s most challenging and picturesque terrain.

Climbing a staggering 3,000 metres in elevation, the route included several mountain summits, with Helvellyn—a favourite among seasoned hikers—providing both a breathtaking view and a technical test of skill. Cliff-side scrambles, boulder-strewn paths, and rugged ascents pushed our students to their limits, demanding not only physical strength but mental resilience.

Fortunately, the Lake District offered its best side, with four days of perfect “bluebird” weather. Clear skies and warm sunshine made for unforgettable vistas and moments of pause amidst the challenge—each step rewarded with panoramic beauty.

What stood out most, however, was the incredible spirit shown by the group. Their teamwork, problem-solving, and sheer determination were on display at every stage. Spirits remained high throughout, with students supporting one another through each climb and descent—always ending the day with smiles, laughter, and a well-earned rest.

With the practice expedition now successfully completed, attention turns to the final hurdle: the qualifying expedition in Scotland this August.  Judging by their performance in the Lake District, this cohort is more than ready to rise to the occasion once again.

We are immensely proud of all our students for their commitment and courage—what an outstanding achievement!
