Health Declaration Form

Please can we ask that the Health Declaration Form is completed by Sunday 11 October.

Please find the link here

Arrival of Pupils in the Morning

Please can we remind parents that your children should not be coming to the Prep School until 8am unless they are booked into Breakfast Club.  We do not open the doors to the main school until 8am when the teachers are available to receive your children.  We do not want the children to be congregating in groups outside of the Prep School where they risk compromising bubbles before they are let into the building.  Staff are not officially on duty until 8am, so if your child arrives before that time they will not supervised.

Combe Bank Drive

Unfortunately we have received some complaints from our neighbours regarding reckless driving into/out of and along Combe Bank Drive.  Please could we ask that all parents/carers proceed with caution along the drive and ensure that they adhere to the speed limit ensuring that we are considerate to our neighbours .  Please may we also politely remind parents/carers to use the drop off and pick up in the parent carpark and to not park in the Staff Car Park.

Request for children to miss sports lessons

If your child is unable to participate in a sports lesson whilst in school due to injury of illness, please could you email sports@radnor-sevenoaks.org with the information as to why your child/ren should be excused from their sports lesson.

Harvest 2020

You may have noticed that we are getting closer to the time when we would usually celebrate Harvest by inviting the children to come into school with a donation of food which we would then pass on to a local charity.  Given the current situation with Covid and the fact that we are only able to complete assemblies by Teams, we would like to celebrate Harvest a little differently this year.  Whilst we still want to recognise and help those in need in our local area, it is not really sensible to ask the children to bring in a donation.  Instead, we would ask you to consider giving a donation to your local food bank.  Whilst you are handing in your donation, please take a photo of your child with their donation, and we will create a photo collage of all of the children doing something special for others.  If you live in Kent and would like to locate your local foodbank, please follow the link here.  Additionally, many supermarkets also have collections by their check out points.

Pre Prep and Prep School Parent Consultations, Week Commencing Monday 12 October

You will be aware that we are running parent consultations in a different format this year.  As outlined last week, class teachers have been asked to suggest times during the afternoons and evenings of the week commencing 12 October from 4.45pm onwards which work with their family schedule.  Meetings will be held via Teams and you will be able to book a suitable 10-minute timeslot.  We would ask that parents keep to the 10 minute timeslot to ensure that the sessions run smoothly, so if you have any significant issues that you wish to discuss with your child’s class teacher, it may be preferable to book an appointment with them to do that at another time when they will have more time available to speak with you at length.  Once all parents have signed up for an appointment, your child’s class teacher will set up the meetings with you via their Teams account.  Please see the guide here which explains how to access the meeting.  If you have any queries about this, please do not hesitate to contact the Prep Office who will direct your query to the most appropriate person.

If you have a specific question or concern and would like to meet via Teams with Mr Woodward (Director of Studies), Mrs Spencer (Prep Deputy Head) or Dr Margrett (Head of Prep), please contact the Prep Office who will make an appointment for you.  Our specialist teachers will be available during the parent consultation in February.

Awards in Celebration Assembly

Congratulations to the prep children whose achievements we celebrated in our Celebration assembly on Monday.  Please click here for the full list of awards given.

If your child has achieved something exciting outside of school in a club or activity that they participate in, please invite them to share it with the Prep School during our weekly Celebration Assembly on Mondays by sending any information to Dr Margrett: emargrett@radnor-sevenoaks.org.

Prep House Cross Country

Our annual House Cross Countries take place during PE and Games lesson at the end of this week and next week with the following year groups on the following days:

Friday 9 October - Year 1 Boys and Girls

Monday 12 October - Year 5 Boys and Girls (separate races) and Year 6 Boys and Girls (separate races)

Tuesday 13 October - Year 2 Boys and Girls

Wednesday 14 October - Year 3 Boys and Girls (one race) and Year 4 Boys and Girls (one race)

Please may I ask that your child wears their house t-shirt for the day (if they have one) or their normal games shirt.  Running spikes may be worn for the event, or normal trainers will suffice.

It would be advisable that, as per any games session, a named water bottle is brought in. The course will vary according to age between 750m and 1.5km and is relatively flat with one short hill.

Rest assured that the races will be run in individual year groups, with mixed gender races in Year 1 – 4 and with separate races for boys and girls in Years 5 & 6.

Good luck to all houses!

Black History Month Music Listening Calendar

Some students in Years 8 and 9 have had an opportunity to watch the BBC4 documentary Black Classical Music: The Forgotten History.  This is available until the end of the month on BBC iplayer here for those who have not had this opportunity in school.  In addition, this year the music department is challenging you to listen to a different piece of music that was written or performed by a black composer every day of the month.  Click here to access our powerpoint, these are artists that you may not have heard of, but who have definitely impacted the musical world!

After School Sports Clubs

You will be aware that we have started an extensive programme of after school sports clubs in the past couple of weeks.  As the weather turns wetter, it may be that some clubs will need to be cancelled in part or in full on the day of the club.  Although we have our large Sports Hall, we are still working to keep class bubbles separate and should we need to move inside it may mean that we cannot accommodate all of the children for the club at one time whilst maintaining the integrity of the bubbles.  We will therefore aim to make a decision by midday on the day of any sports clubs, and inform parents via a School Post message if we need to cancel the activity for some or all children.  If we have to reduce the number of children attending the club to allow the club to continue inside, we will ensure that we do this on a rotational basis.

School Uniform

In light of the recent change in the weather, we would like to offer the children the opportunity to come into school until half term in either summer or winter uniform.  All children will transition to winter uniform  after half term, except for no ties, trainers instead of school shoes and PE kit is to be worn on the days that children have sport during the day or after school.

We are aware that some parents have had difficulty in purchasing the official RH7 sports tops from Horncastles due them not being able to obtain deliveries from overseas quickly enough.  To assist parents in the current COVID environment, we are looking into the possibility of a temporary black airtex  polo shirt with the RH7 logo for wearing  during this period.  Please be advised that these would not replace the official RH7 Sports Tops and are an interim short term solution only.

The cost of the polo shirt will be £10 and will only be available to purchase through the school.  Horncastles will not be stocking these. To enable us to gauge interest as to how many t-shirts are required and if it will be viable to offer this temporary solution, please complete and submit this form by Monday 12 October to register your interest.

Pumpkin Competition

Unfortunately due to Coronavirus restrictions we will not be able to hold our annual Fireworks Event but we are running our annual Pumpkin Carving Competition remotely.  Please see details attached.

During half term we would ask that any child that wishes to, carves and creates their own design of Pumpkin and then sends a picture of themselves with their creation to pumpkin@radnor-sevenoaks.org.  The cost to enter is £2 which please could you pay directly to your house charity by following this link

There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and all entries will be judged by Mr Halliwell!  We cannot wait to see your wonderful creations – Good luck and happy holidays!

Christmas Merchandise for Gifts

Unfortunately, due to COVID and Bubble restrictions in school we will be unable to run a Christmas Fair in the Prep School this year.

We are very keen that all children are able to participate in Christmas activities which also raise funds for our house and parent and staff nominated national charities.

We are therefore working with the children to create artwork which they will be able to have printed onto tea towels, canvas tote bags and Christmas cards which you will be able to buy as gifts for family and friends and show off your children's artistic skills!

Each class will be designing a tea-towel, with every child contributing their own piece of artwork.  The cost of the tea towels to purchase will be £6.50 each or 3 for £15

Then individually, each child will create a piece of artwork to be printed onto a canvas tote bag priced at £10 each.

A different design will be created by each child to be printed on a pack of 4 Christmas cards with their name printed on the back at a cost of £4 per pack or 3 packs for £10.

To enable us to ensure that orders are received before Christmas, we need to collate orders before half term.  If you would like to order any of the above items, please do complete and submit this form by Thursday 15 October and we will then contact you with details of how you can make payment.

As always thank you for your help and support in making Covid Christmas at RH7 as special as it can be!

Clothes Collection

Some of our year 12's are putting together a clothes collection for Uganda.  It would be much appreciated for any old clothes and/or shoes to be donated for those in need.  There will be a box under the bus stop in the main car park from 8-8:20am and 4-4:20pm on both Tuesday’s and Thursday’s.  We also ask for the clothes and shoes to be donated in plastic bags, labelled with the name and year of the child.  Any further donations for the shipping cost would also be welcomed!

Thank you!

Parents' Association - FoRH7

A BIG THANKS TO RH7 FROM OUR SCHOOL CHARITIES!

An incredible £28k was recently donated to our school charities from our fundraising events and efforts of last year.  Below is a summary of how those donations are making a real difference to the people and animals the charities support, their messages of thanks, and news of a new addition to the school ... Alfie the donkey.  Well done everyone!

LOCAL HOUSE CHARITIES

WEST KENT MIND (NEWTON HOUSE) – amount donated £5,136

Last year our donation enabled the Mum’s Support Group for mothers with post-natal depression or other mental health problems to run, many of whom refer to it as their lifeline.  This year our donation will fund their popular Music Wellbeing Group for a whole year.  Stevie Rice, Chief Exec WKM says "Thank you so much to everyone at Radnor who has supported us, and our very special thanks go to the pupils of Newton House who showed such creativity, passion and dedication with their fundraising"

LEONARD CHESHIRE DISABILITY, CHIPSTEAD LAKES  (PANKHURST HOUSE) – amount donated £4,840

Last year our donation paid for residents to take part in sporting events, including ice skating and boxing which took place before lockdown.  With curling, boxing and a visit to the cyclo-park still to come once possible.  This year’s funds will be used to build a 3 sided open fronted pergola, giving residents a fabulous area in which to sit with visiting family and friends.  Lindo Addo, Service Manager says "The money that you have raised for us is amazing and has helped enrich the lives of all residents.  A massive thank you is extended to all of you"

FOAL FARM ANIMAL RESCUE (NIGHTINGALE HOUSE) – amount donated £4,962

Foal Farm has been particularly badly impacted by the pandemic.  They say "We really cannot thank you enough for your dedication to our cause.  We are supported by a handful of local schools, but Radnor House is truly the most determined and generous.  As a thank you we would like to give a complementary sponsorship of Alfie the donkey and a VIP tour for some students once that's possible"  The money we have donated to Foal Farm has gone towards the general running costs of the 300+ animals they offer sanctuary to, such as food, bedding, vet bills and the renovation of the dog runs.

BRADBOURNE RDA (CHURCHILL HOUSE) – amount donated £4,737

Last year's funds enabled a wide cross section of their disabled riders to participate in a number of fun and competitive events including HIckstead, where the team won two trophies.  Being able to compete gave a huge boost of confidence to the riders.  This year the centre had to close in lockdown, but still had to feed and maintain the ponies, and the money we have been able to donate has been invaluable.  Sarah Fenn, Chairman of Trustees says "We have particularly enjoyed the children’s letters and photos during lockdown, especially to hear about growing carrots – our ponies treats!  Thank you so much, we are so appreciative of the time, hard work and creativity of staff, parents and children"

MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT (NATIONAL CHARITY) - amount donated £4,167

Chosen by the pupils last October, this charity is incredibly supportive and close to many people’s hearts, even more so this past year with cancer diagnosis and care under so much pressure.  Our community support of this charity has been even more relevant and fitting with the sad loss of our Head of Prep, Beth Ingram-Cordrey.  We are so pleased, as are Macmillan, that we could make this significant donation.

PROJECT LE MONDE (INTERNATIONAL CHARITY) - amount donated £4,167

RH Namakoko was also forced to close during lockdown, but their teachers’ salaries would have gone unpaid if it wasn't for our donation.  Only year 7’s in Uganda are being allowed to return to school this year, in order to sit exams to progress to secondary school.  Our funds will help to pay the returning teachers salaries, as well as hand-washing stations, school cleaning requirements and a hand held thermometer.  Seeds will also be purchased for the market garden which our school volunteers created last October, and which has proved invaluable during the lockdown.  PLM are also working to provide books and other materials to support learning at home.  Anne Lotter, founder of PLM says "Thank you so much to everyone at RH Sevenoaks for the fantastic achievement of raising the funds for PLM in these very challenging times we are all facing"
