Year 7 Entry
Limited spaces are available for Year 7 2020, please contact the Registrar, Wendy Owens for further details
Entry in Year 7 2021
Year 7 is the key admission point at Radnor House Sevenoaks. There are a total of 80 places available for girls and boys. With 30 typically moving up from Year 6 each year, we have approximately 50 places available for external candidates. If you wish to register your child, please complete the online Registration Form.
An offer of one of the external places will be based on successful performance in our entrance process.
The process is a combination of academic testing (a 1 hour cognitive ability test, followed by a 30 minute written English paper,) an interview with a member of the Senior Leadership team, and a reference from your child’s current school.
The cognitive ability test is taken on a computer and there are no practice papers for these tests. Children will be tested on their vocabulary, mathematics, and skills such as perceptual speed and accuracy, and non-verbal reasoning. This test will be followed by an English writing test which will focus on the child’s ability to write meaningfully and fluently in prose. Children can best prepare for these tests by learning to solve problems independently, and reading to extend their vocabulary and ability to infer meaning. Candidates who are entitled to extra time for the examinations should indicate this when applying so that they can be accommodated within the entrance exam timetable.
The academic element of the entrance process accounts for 50% of the final decision and the qualitative elements of interview and reference collectively also count towards 50% of the final decision. In this way Radnor House Sevenoaks is one of the few schools that genuinely wants to understand your child and what we might be able to do for them over the years ahead.
The interview will last for approximately 10 minutes and is an opportunity for us to ask your child about their interests inside and outside of school. Normally there will be a brief passage to read and a chance for the child to reflect on the degree to which they have already embraced the school's values of excellence, respect, courage and perseverance.
For late applicants, additional sittings of entrance tests will be arranged if places are still available.
Year 7 Scholarships
All pupils applying for entry at Year 7 (including internal pupils) are automatically considered for an academic scholarship. Please note that academic scholarships are only available upon entry to Radnor House Sevenoaks Senior School and will not be reassessed after entry.
