Welcome to Reception
From the day your child joins our Reception class, we inspire a love of learning within an atmosphere of happiness and warmth. Your child will be motivated to work and play to the best of their abilities, therefore making the smooth transition from Nursery to Reception a happy experience.
The School day in Reception
- Registration is at 8.20am
- The school day finishes at 3.30pm
- Wrap care (from 7am to 7pm) is available at additional cost and can be booked via SOCS.
The curriculum in Reception is rich, stimulating, engaging and hugely varied. We place a strong focus on literacy and numeracy when the children move to Reception, with a targeted approach that enables each child to progress at their own level. Our curriculum in Reception and throughout the Prep School includes specialist teaching in Computer Science, French, Music, Drama, PE and Forest School.
Children of today are growing up immersed in a world with new technologies. As part of our Reception class computing curriculum, your child will be taught push button activities; remote control devices; simple, programmable robots such as Bee-Bot; musical keyboards; digital cameras; interactive books; as well as using desktop computers and mobile devices. We also teach them online safety and support families with up-to-date information on how to educate and keep children safe.
Access to a secure online learning journal to help you celebrate your child’s learning and development
We strongly believe in forming close partnerships with parents by actively encouraging you to be involved in your child’s education from day one. When you child moves to Reception you will be given secure access to Tapestry, our online learning journal.
Tapestry builds a very special record of your child’s experiences and journey through their early years. Using photos, videos and diary entries our Reception teachers, along with the child’s parents, ‘weaves’ the story of the child and how they progress together. These memories are kept as a permanent record of your child’s experiences at the start of their school journey. Parents can view their child’s progress, and how much fun they’re having – online, through the platform as the class teachers share observations. Parents can also upload their own thoughts and comments.
Supporting your child’s wellbeing
Your child’s welfare and happiness are our first priority. Excellent pastoral care underpins the ethos at Radnor House Sevenoaks. We acknowledge that every pupil has the right to feel safe, to learn and to be treated with respect.
Our pastoral system operates on a number of different levels, with support provided first and foremost by the form teacher who represents the ‘parent at school’. The class teacher provides the link between home and school and is the main point of contact for any problems or queries that might arise. Beyond the class teacher, further pastoral support is provided by our Heads of school, Deputy Head and in school counsellor.
