Sport in the Prep School

An outstanding provision for sport at Radnor House

From a young age, we endeavour to foster determination, confidence, passion, respect and teamwork through sport. The school implements a gender equal approach to sport which provides all boys and girls with the same opportunities in our focus sports of hockey, football, cricket and swimming.

To lead our focus sports, the school has appointed elite specialist athletes as Directors of Sport who coach and mentor the pupils from Year 3 upwards:

Mr Tom Butt, Director of Sport
Miss Jess Fullalove ,Director of Swimming
Mr Craig Morton, Director of Hockey
Mr Osman Kamil, Director of Football
Mrs Susie Wilson-Rowe, Director of Cricket

These directors lead their specific sport coaching programmes to ensure pupils receive the very best levels of coaching and opportunities to develop within those sports throughout their time at Radnor House.

Our goal is to encourage a lifetime love and appreciation of sport and physical activity through a broad and exciting curriculum of PE, games and swimming. In addition, there are numerous sports clubs on offer before, during and after school. This provision is complemented further by a busy weekly fixture programme in which every child participates from Years 3 - 6, reflecting our sport for all approach.

Key competitive sports for both the boys and girls include cross-country, hockey, football, swimming and cricket. Netball, rugby and athletics also feature frequently; our children enjoying a vast number of opportunities on the sporting front. The school is also host to the area ISA junior cross country amongst other smaller events annually and our most able athletes in each sport compete in various ISA and IAPS tournaments throughout the year.

In Years 3-6 all pupils have one swimming lesson, one PE lesson and two games lessons per week. The games programme follows a season of approximately eight weeks on each sport. Pre-season training takes place weekly in the preceding season for each sport. The pre-season programme provides our pupils with enhanced skill and tactical awareness ahead of playing fixtures, meaning pupils can gain further confidence in each sport before having to apply it in match situations.

Our goal is to provide all our teams with the best chance of performing at higher standards. It is expected that all A team players attend these training sessions, but the sessions are open to all that want to develop their skills and tactics in these sports.

In addition to our focus sports, which are delivered in games lessons, pupils participate in PE lessons and have access to our wide and diverse co-curricular programme, in which pupils can develop their skills and compete in cross country, tennis, athletics, basketball, rugby and netball to name but a few sports.   For further information on specific sports, please see the individual sport pages below.
