Burns Night Gala Dinner - Saturday 25 January 2020

Clubs and Wrap Care During the last week of term 9-13 December 

Please be advised that Co-curricular Clubs will not run during the last week of term.  Wrap Care will be available all week except for Friday when all children must be collected at their normal pick up times.

Online Safety: Improving Young People's Wellbeing with the "Own It App"

The BBC has created a "wellbeing" smartphone app called ‘Own It’, available through app stores, aimed at supporting children and young people to interact safely and responsibly with friends and family online and through messaging apps.  The app is mainly targeting children aged 8-12 years old, but would be suitable for any young person who has recently received their own smartphone.

The app enables users to install a special software keyboard which monitors the tone of the words being typed and language used.  It will evaluate children’s moods so it can offer advice, encourage them to talk to trusted adults, or prompt them to think again if they are about to share sensitive data or send an upsetting message.  The app is not a monitoring or reporting system and does not report to parents about children’s activity, however it is designed to enable children to develop resilience online and offers targeted help and support when necessary.  The ‘Own It’ app also has its own content to help children manage the amount of time they spend looking at their screen and shares advice about responsible online behaviours.  For more information on each article please click below:

Year 1 News

Phonics Morning - Wednesday 27 November

In order for parents and carers to get a full picture, we are going to split the days with Year 1 and Reception parents invited to both sessions.  The first session will be on Wednesday 27 November and looking at a lesson in a reception class.  The second session will be in the second week back after Christmas and watching a Year 1 lesson.  After each session we will head up to the cafe to talk about strategies to support and answer any questions you have.  This will also give you an idea of the progression in school.  

Outdoor Learning/Forest School

Mrs Corp and Mr Kemp would really appreciate you checking that your child has all the correct Outdoor Learning/Forest School Kit.  They need their warm red coat, waterproof trousers and Wellington boots.  Boots can be quite cold, so a pair of warm socks would also be great if it gets really cold.  Thank you.

Nativity Performance

Please see attached letter to book your seats for the Year 1 and Year 2 Nativity Performances on Monday 9 December and Wednesday 11 December.

Prep Christmas Fair

Please could we have donations of the following for the Christmas Fair, which can be left outside the Prep Office on the red table under the arch:  Boxes or small bars of chocolates (please ensure these are nut-free)/jam jars filled with toys or small gifts/soft toys, books (new or good quality second hand), Smarties, small packets of sweets and pine cones!

Secret Santa

During the Prep School Christmas Fair on Friday 6 December (4 pm until 6 pm),  Friends of Radnor House would like to invite your child/ren to visit the Secret Santa stall and purchase presents for their relatives.  These gifts will be priced at £2.50 each and will be gift wrapped and labelled ready for child/ren to place under the Christmas Tree.  To enable Friends to gauge how many gifts they need to purchase, please could you complete this form and submit it before Friday 29 November.  On the day of the Christmas Fair please could we request that your child/ren brings with them the total amount due in an envelope marked with their name and form.

We will be holding our Christmas Carol Service on Thursday 12 December at St Nicholas' Church in Sevenoaks.  All pupils from Year 3 are required to attend the service and will go to the church during the day to practise.  All other pupils and all parents are welcome to attend.  The service starts at 5pm and will finish at approximately 6.30pm.  You will need to collect your child/ren from the church at this time.

River Project Showcase - Monday 2 December

Our River Project Showcase will take place after school in the Performing Arts Centre from 4.00pm-5.00pm.  Should you wish to attend, please can you fill out the attached form.  Children will be expected to stay after school until 4.30pm, at the earliest, but will be free to leave with their parent/carer after this time.

Swim Squad Training

The last training session will take place on Thursday 5 December. The first morning training session back will be on Thursday 9 January 2020. After this training will be back to normal timings.
