This immersive experience enabled the pupils in Year 4 to put their learning from their humanities topic of ‘The Romans’ into practice to work and train like a legionary.

Pupils in Year 4 had the opportunity to look at and handle the equipment and armour of a Roman legionary, learn about the history of the invasion of Emperor Claudius, experience camp jobs and play Roman legionary games. There was even the chance to sample a 2000-year-old lentil stew recipe. Not only this, they were also be put through their paces with some authentic legionary training including handling Roman shields, marching in time, battle formations and tactics with all commands being in Latin!
