Radnor House Sevenoaks Awarded Prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag with Distinction

Radnor House Sevenoaks has once again been recognised for its outstanding commitment to sustainability, earning the prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag with distinction for the second consecutive year.

The Eco-Schools programme, an international initiative launched in 1994, is implemented in over 70 countries and engages millions of students worldwide in environmental action. In England alone, more than 1.4 million pupils participated in the 2023-24 school year. The programme’s seven-step framework encourages students to explore environmental challenges and lead sustainability initiatives within their schools and communities.

Since first joining the programme in 2022, our school has built a strong reputation for its environmental efforts. Our continued success has sparked a growing interest in sustainability across the student body, leading to a variety of initiatives focused on making a positive impact.

This year, the students concentrated on three key areas: healthy living, school grounds, and waste management. The school’s Eco-Committee organised several activities, including a ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ poster competition and the creation of a bottle-top mural representing their school’s ‘Eco Promise.’

Miss Newick expressed her pride in the students’ achievements. “It has been a privilege to work with the Eco Committee to make dynamic changes within our school that will have a positive impact on our world. The pupils themselves have inspired me and many other members of staff to protect and care for our planet,” she said.

Pupil Charlotte, a passionate member of the Eco team, shared her enthusiasm: “Being part of the Eco team has been a wonderful experience as together we have made a big difference to our school. This is our second Eco-Schools Green Flag award with distinction, and I feel extremely proud to have been part of it. I'm very passionate about the environment, reading many books on the subject, and I've even asked for litter pickers for my birthday!"

Adam Flint, Eco-Schools England Manager, commended the students and staff, saying: “The Eco-Schools Green Flag is an international benchmark that demonstrates a commitment to fighting climate change and maintaining high standards of sustainable practice. Students and staff who earn this award deserve recognition for their dedication to protecting our planet. Every day, they show that each of us can contribute to making our world a more sustainable place.”

We are incredibly proud of all students and staff involved in this wonderful initiative, their hard work is making a real difference!
