The Purpose of the Role
Radnor House Sevenoaks is seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic and highly skilled Head of Prep PE to lead our Prep School Physical Education and Games provision during a period of maternity leave. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a thriving Sports Department within a successful and forward-thinking independent school.
The Head of Prep PE provides strategic and operational leadership for all aspects of Prep PE and Games. The postholder is responsible for delivering a high-quality curriculum, coordinating fixtures and competitions, and ensuring outstanding sporting experiences for all pupils.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Sport and the wider Sports Department to ensure clear alignment and progression between Prep and Senior phases.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the Prep PE curriculum, schemes of work and progression.
- Ensure Prep provision aligns with the whole school Core PE framework.
- Maintain high standards of teaching, learning and pupil outcomes.
- Oversee Prep fixtures, festivals, clubs and events, including some out of hours commitments.
- Manage Prep Sports Day, inter house competition structures and parent communications.
- Collaborate with the Director of Sport and Heads of Sport on coaching consistency and departmental development.
- Support, induct and mentor Prep PE staff and coaches.
- Contribute to co curricular clubs and training sessions.
- Uphold safeguarding, health and safety and appropriate supervision standards.
We are looking for someone who:
- Is an excellent PE teacher with strong subject knowledge.
- Has experience leading curriculum planning or sports programmes at Prep/Primary or KS2 level.
- Is an inspiring coach with a commitment to inclusive, engaging PE.
- Demonstrates strong organisational and communication skills.
- Works collaboratively within a large and busy Sports Department.
- Is committed to pupil wellbeing, safeguarding and high expectations.
Working Pattern
- Fixed-term maternity cover from 8 June 2026 for approximately 12 months (end date may vary depending on the employee’s confirmed return date).
- Full-time, teacher contract (School Teachers’ Terms).
