The Purpose of the Role
This is a key leadership position for an exceptional practitioner of Economics. The successful candidate will:
- Lead Economics and Business across the school with expertise, credibility and vision.
- Coordinate and lead the departmental team, including the Director of Enterprise (who oversees delivery of the Business courses) and Senior Deputy Head ensuring cohesion, high standards and strategic alignment between the Economics and Business departments.
- Set the direction for both subjects, ensuring excellent outcomes and a rich academic experience for students.
This role would suit a dynamic, knowledgeable and inspiring specialist who thrives on shaping curriculum, supporting colleagues, and driving continuous improvement..
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership
- Provide strategic leadership for Economics and Business across Key Stages 4 and 5.
- Lead by example in teaching excellence, departmental culture and professional standards.
- Line manage and support the teaching team, ensuring consistent standards, shared goals and collaborative working practices.
- Set the vision for rigorous, engaging and forward thinking curricula in both subjects.
Teaching
- Teach Economics to A Level to an excellent standard.
- Monitor teaching quality and student progress, taking action to secure excellent outcomes.
- Oversee curriculum development, schemes of work and assessment frameworks.
- Ensure all departmental documentation meets statutory and school requirements.
Management
- Lead, motivate and develop the Economics and Business teaching team.
- Manage departmental resources, budgeting and procurement.
- Support the induction and training of new staff and ECTs.
- Oversee reporting, communication with parents and departmental self evaluation.
Co-curricular
- Ensure the department offers a wide range of enrichment opportunities, including clinics, academic competitions, trips and clubs.
Pastoral
- Undertake the responsibilities of a tutor and contribute fully to the school’s pastoral systems.
Requirements:
- A degree in Economics, Business or a related disipline (required).
- A proven track record of excellence in teaching Economics at A Level.
- Experience of teaching Business is also desirable.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and support colleagues.
- Experience of curriculum design and departmental development.
- QTS is highly desirable.
