House Fundraising and Competitions

The House Assemblies on Wednesday 13 January saw the launch of the first House FUNdraising initiative of 2021:  The Age-athon, this tremendous initiative will be running up to the end of the February Half-Term and gives students the opportunity to raise funds and awareness for our struggling House Charities.  House points will also be awarded to those who raise the most for their House Charity.

To keep our House Competitions alive and thriving during this lockdown period, the House Singing and Music was also launched, giving our budding musicians and singers the opportunity to produce a song or musical piece on video.  The video should be saved in their House Team files or sent to their Heads of House by Monday 1 February.  House points and credits will be awarded to any student that enters with certificates and points to the winners.

For further information on the House initiatives, please refer to the PowerPoint presentation here.

Safety Advice for Apps

The Carly Ryan Foundation has created fact sheets with information on how to keep safe online when using a variety of Apps including Roblox, Among Us, YouTube and Minecraft.  We recommend having a read if your child uses any of these apps, please click here.  If you have any concerns or need support making sure your device is safe please contact our IT team, Head of PSHEE or your class teacher/tutor.

NHS Appeal for Pembury and Tonbridge Cottage Hospitals

We are thrilled to advise that our school community has raised a PHENOMENAL £2618.00 for the NHS appeal.  More information about how the money will be used (at the request of NHS staff) and other updates on how our community is supporting this appeal will be released in the Bulletin next week.

A special thanks must go to Nicole Beesley who is a parent in Year 6 and volunteer for the Hygiene Bank.  On Friday she sent a message to advise that she had received a donation of 136 kilograms of lip balm, hand cream, wipes and body cream from Boots and has generously arranged for these to be donated to the NHS staff.

Many thanks to you all.  We are enormously proud to support the NHS and for the generosity of our community!

GCSE and GCE (A level) Consultation

Following the announcement by the Department for Education and Ofqual regarding a consultation process regarding the GCSE and GCE (A level) exams, we wanted to send you the links and encourage you and the students to take part.

This is the official consultation link. The school will be submitting a school view on the consultation, but it is open to everyone as an individual. It closes at 11.45pm on 29 January 2021.

For the students, there is also this Ofqal Blog. They might find this helpful as a starter before they complete the consultation themselves.

This notice will also be sent to the students tomorrow via Show My Homework.

For everyone, this is an excellent opportunity to have an input into the final decisions made.

Audiobook - FoRH needs you …

Do you have any stories or fascinating facts about Combe Bank, the gorgeous property that our senior school is housed in? Do you know its history, or the history of the people who owned it and lived in it? Maybe it’s a tale linked to someone who worked there or who visited. Perhaps your information is about the building itself or the grounds, including the lake and the stable block where the prep is now located. No matter how minute a detail, we want to know about it.

Friends are in the very early stages of creating an audiobook that will be filled with these stories and more, and to do it right, we need as much information as possible. This is going to be a wonderful project that we hope you’ll love, but we can’t do it without you, so, no matter what the story might be, please send it to friends@radnor-sevenoaks.org. Please also ask your friends and family if they have any stories to share; the magic of Combe Bank spreads far and wide, and we know there are many tales to tell.

Virtual Balloon Race - Request for sponsors

Friends are organising a virtual balloon race as a fundraiser later this term, where pupils and families of the school and our partner charities can buy and personalise a virtual balloon and enter it into a race which will be tracked over the duration of a week, and use real weather data. It should be both great fun and educational! We would love to have our own Radnor House race but need sponsors to make this happen. Please contact us at friends@radnor-sevenoaks.org if you are interested in being a sponsor which needn’t be expensive and would be a terrific boost to us as we help our school charities. Thank you!
