Health Declaration Form

Please can we ask that the attached Health Declaration Form is completed by Sunday 4 October.

Prep PSHEE Updates- IMPORTANT!

Since September 2020, the Health Education and Relationships Education aspects of PSHEE education are now compulsory in all schools.  Although schools are not required to teach the new and updated syllabus until the start of the Summer Term 2021, at Radnor in the Prep School, we have already implemented parts of the new curriculum over the last year to empower our children as soon as possible with many new life skills.  Topics covered within the PSHEE curriculum include naming our body parts, online safety, the pants rule, basic first aid skills and so much more!  Following the initial roll out of our new curriculum, the feedback from parents, staff, pupils and the government has enabled us to update our policies and curriculum overviews so that they fully reflect our new and improved curriculum.

Please find the PSHEE Curriculum overview for EYFS to Year 6 here, our new RSE (Relationships and Sex education) Policy here, and a list of helpful websites and an overview of themes being taught over the Autumn Term. They are important documents, and we would ask all parents to read them.

As always, if you have any questions, please email Miss Katie Dale, Prep PSHEE Subject Leader at kdale@radnor-sevenoaks.org, or speak directly to your child’s class teacher.   Miss Dale is happy to arrange meetings or phone calls with anyone who wishes to discuss any aspect of the curriculum further, or who would like recommendations of further resources to use with their child at home.

Pre Prep and Prep School Parent Consultations, Week Commencing Monday 12 October

This year we are running parent consultations in a different format.  Class teachers have been asked to suggest times during the afternoons and evenings of the week commencing 12 October from 4.45pm onwards which work with their family schedule.  Meetings will be held via Teams and you will be able to book a suitable 10-minute timeslot. We would ask that parents keep to the 10 minute timeslot to ensure that the sessions run smoothly, so if you have any significant issues that you wish to discuss with your child’s class teacher, it may be preferable to book an appointment with them to do that at another time when they will have more time available to speak with you at length.

If you have a specific question or concern and would like to meet via Teams with Mr Woodward (Director of Studies), Mrs Spencer(Prep Deputy Head) or Dr Margrett (Head of Prep), please contact the Prep Office who will make an appointment for you. Our special teachers will be available during the parent consultation in February.

The BIG Anti-Bullying Assembly 2020

This week in the Prep school, all the pupils have taken part in an anti-bullying assembly.  Each class has discussed mutual respect, support networks and ways to ensure everyone is safe at Radnor House Sevenoaks.  Classrooms have been full of great discussions and we would like you to follow up the key messages at home.  Click here for a leaflet with a guide to anti-bullying for parents/carers to support their children, identify signs and symptoms of bullying and how to help with bullying online and offline.

Reading for Pleasure

Research has consistently shown how beneficial reading for pleasure is.  At Radnor House, we are keen to find out more about the reading habits of our pupils and we will be sending out a link to a survey (Years 4-6) which we would appreciate the children completing.  For Reception to Year 3 there will be a paper survey which the children will answer in class.  This will help us to ensure that we are doing everything we can to support and encourage reading in the Prep!  Thank you for all your efforts, it has been lovely to have so many children coming up and telling me about the different books they have read at home!

National Poetry Day

On Thursday 1 October it is National Poetry Day!  To celebrate this event Radnor House is holding its own celebration of poetry.  We are putting together an anthology of poems on the theme of community!  To have a chance for your child's entry to be included, please email prepwriting@radnor-sevenoaks.org with their entry.  The deadline for applications is Friday 6 November 2020, first week back after half term.  Children will be receiving a pack with more information this week!

Awards in Celebration Assembly

Congratulations to the prep children whose achievements we celebrated in our Celebration assembly on Monday.  Please click here for the full list of awards given.

If your child has achieved something exciting outside of school in a club or activity that they participate in, please invite them to share it with the Prep School during our weekly Celebration Assembly on Mondays by sending any information to Dr Margrett: emargrett@radnor-sevenoaks.org.

Threadworm

Please may we ask parents to be vigilant as we have been advised of a case of Threadworm in Prep School.  Please see the information in the NHS link here for guidance on how to treat this and/or consult your GP/pharmacist for further information if required.

Touch Typing TTRS

In our current circumstances, we are not able to offer these sessions within school.  However, Susie Pepper is able to offer online support for pupils who wish to develop this really useful life skill.  If you are interested in pursuing some support, please contact Susie on susiepepper10@gmail.com  We will of course have these lessons happening on site for mixed groups as soon as possible.

School Library Books

Many thanks to all of you who have returned school library books - it is much appreciated.  Please could everyone have one more look to ensure that there aren't books hidden amongst your shelves or under beds!  School library books will usually have a school stamp inside, an extra barcode sticker on the back or inside and labels on the spine.  All books should be returned to form rooms.

Thank you Mrs Lambert

Times Tables Rockstars!

Times tables are so important in our mathematics learning and what better way to practise them than with Times Tables Rockstars!  As head of Prep mathematics, Miss Parker will be looking for the child who has the 'Most Correct Answers' and the 'Most Improved' each month on Times Tables Rockstars.  The competition will be starting on Thursday 1 October and will finish on Sunday 1 November.  So, start practising your times tables for your chance to be on the Times Tables Rockstars board, win some prizes and be amazing at your times tables!

Homework Club (Years 3-6)

In order to allow us to resume the provision of Homework Club and maintain social distancing between children, Homework Club will take place in the Prep Hall until further notice.  Each child will be allocated an individual exam desk and desks will be spaced so that there is a distance of 2m between children from different bubbles.  These will be sanitised at the end of each session.  Consequently, at this time, the children will be unable to access their Class OneNote in order to complete their homework whilst at Homework Club.  We appreciate that this is less than ideal, but your child’s class teacher will be able to provide them with a hard copy of the work which has been set online if they would like one to use during Homework Club, which can be handed in to their teacher to mark as it will not have left the building.  We would also encourage the children to ensure that they bring a book and other activities such as word puzzles or sudoku puzzles to keep themselves occupied if they do not have homework to complete.  They may also want to bring a fruit snack to eat to keep them going at the end of the day until they are collected.

Flu Immunisation – Wednesday 25 November 2020

Flu vaccinations are happening in Prep School after the half-term on Wednesday 25 November.  The NHS lead this initiative across the whole country and the students they vaccinate in school are from Reception to Year 6.   Please keep an eye out in the next couple of weeks when a letter from the NHS will be posted in this Bulletin for the attention of parents of students in these year groups.  Within the letter will be a link which will take you to the NHS Immunisation website where you can read information around the flu vaccination, and register your consent/non-consent whichever is your preference.  It is very important that you are proactive in this matter whether consent or non-consent.  Many thanks.  Medical Team"

2020/21 RH7 Charities - New Parent & Staff Choice Charity

We are excited to announce that a new Parent & Staff Choice Charity is to be introduced this year, and we will be asking you very soon for your submissions.  This is a fantastic opportunity to get the entire school community behind a charity that means a lot to you and your family.  Over £4,000 was raised for each of our school charities last year, and so it's a great way to say a very big 'thank you' to a charity that is dear to you, whilst raising awareness of it's good work .

For our House Charities it is also time for a change.  During this term each of the houses will be choosing a new charity to support via their FUNdraising.  Whilst it is sad to move on we have strong relationships with all of our past partner charities, and these will continue via volunteering initiatives such as MaDD, Duke of Edinburgh Awards and community service.  For our International Charity we will continue to develop our partnership with Project Le Monde.
