Duke of Edinburgh Update from Mr Kemp
The current situation has made completing the DofE a significant challenge. In particular the expedition section, which is now not going to be possible before the end of the year. I would like to reassure everyone that the DofE Management Team are well aware of the problems we are all facing and wish to provide all the support they can. Please click here for more information.
We are unusual at Radnor House that we begin Bronze in Year 9 and Silver in Year 10 - many schools begin the scheme in Year 10. T his means we have plenty of time as the majority of pupils have already completed their Volunteering, Skill and Physical sections which have been signed off online.
I recommend that wherever possible, pupils continue to complete their sections over the next few weeks, ideally before the summer. Sections that are not possible at home may be changed at any time. We will then assess the situation and make plans to complete training and expeditions as soon as possible for the next academic year.
It is possible to begin Silver as soon as two sections of the Bronze Award have been completed. Gold cannot be started until the age of 16. For most pupils this gives plenty of time to complete Bronze and Silver even with this delay.
I am sure both parents and pupils have questions at this time and I would like invite you all to join a Zoom Q and A meeting on the following evenings next week.
