Year 12 News

Welcome Videos and Tutor Meeting

Traditionally, we welcome parents to school at the beginning of each year with a part social/part information evening at the end of the first week. Unfortunately, in these current circumstances, this is not possible. In its place we will be sending out welcome videos from me, Fraser and your child's tutor this Friday.

In addition, we will be sending out relevant information for each year group in next week’s Bulletin, which the tutors will go through with you in a virtual meeting on Teams at 5pm on Thursday 10 September. These meetings will be accessed using your child's pupil account within their respective tutor group Team. For those not able to attend these meeting, they will be recorded and will be available to watch at a later date.

Parents' Association - FoRH7

Friends of Radnor House Sevenoaks

A very warm welcome to those families who are joining the school this year, and welcome back to all of our existing RH7 families!

For those who may not know us, FoRH7 is an active charity that plays an integral part in the life of our school.  Friends organise social events such as the annual fireworks display, quiz night and summer ball, as well as running the second-hand school uniform shop.  It also promotes close links between the school and wider community, supporting a variety of organisations at a local, national and international level via fundraising and volunteering initiatives.  All parents and staff automatically become members when they join the school.

Last school year, Friends highlights included an intrepid group of families climbing Scafell Pike as part of our annual 3 Peaks Challenge, a stunning fireworks display, and the Prep School Christmas Fair.  Later in the year, undeterred by the lockdown, we were still able to enjoy our community spirit through fun events such as a remote family Quiz (hosted by local panto star Silly Billy!), an on-line Silent Auction, and with amazing support from staff, some truly impressive FUNdraising activities by the children.

In the face of such a challenging year, we were blown away to have raised over £20k for the charities we support!  These funds have never been more important due to the difficulties all charities have been facing, and they are truly grateful for the genuine interest and support from RH7.  You will have the opportunity to hear directly from the charities on how these funds are making a difference at our AGM in September and (for pupils), at the annual Charities Assembly in October.

Looking ahead now to this school year, and as the school grows and evolves so must FoRH7.  This year we will be ringing the changes on several fronts to remain as relevant as possible to the school community, whilst ensuring excellent governance of the charity itself...

Firstly, there will be some changes in the way we choose the organisations we support.  The four school house charities will now be voted for by the children from a local charity shortlist, and we will be introducing an annual 'parents choice' charity to be both nominated and voted for by you, the parent body.  Further information on the process for nominations will follow in September, and we very much look forward to receiving these from you.  We will continue to work with Project Le Monde as our international charity partner, developing fundraising and other educational opportunities.  Please visit the PLM website here to find out more about our sister school in Namakoko, Uganda.

Also, going forward the trustees and committee of the FoRH7 charity will have a lesser role in the day to day organisation of school events.  This will enable us to focus more on building mutually beneficial links for our children and parents with the organisations we as a school community wish to partner with.  We welcome hearing from anyone who has any ideas about this or would be interested in getting involved by clicking here.  The committee will continue to work closely with the school and class reps to develop this role.

Finally, fear not!  A fantastic and varied programme of social events will still be on offer and publicised via the website, weekly newsletter, and class reps.  We are hoping that parent volunteers will continue to offer their time to help out manning stalls etc, when the call goes out from the school.  More news on the annual programme of events will follow via the newsletter in early September and we can't wait to get our amazing school community together again soon!
