Careers and Network Evening

Thank you to all the parents who have already volunteered to come and support our Careers and Network Evening on Thursday 5 March.  However, we still need more!

We are inviting all of our Year 10, 11 and 12 students to this evening and Year 13s can also come along.  It is a great way for them to hear more about people's experiences of moving from A levels, to University, into their first careers and how they have progressed and moved between careers ever since.  In some cases there will be specific careers that will be of use to the students, but in many cases general advice and guidance will also be gratefully received and incredibly useful.  So if you are available and willing to give two hours of your time to help give some advice and guidance to our pupils and help them develop a sense of the 'world of work' please contact Emma Hanrott on ehanrott@radnor-sevenoaks.org

Our Year 11s and Year 12s are also going to be enjoying a week of work experience on the week beginning Monday 22 June.  If you or your business are willing to offer a work experience placement for that week could you also let Emma Hanrott ehanrott@radnor-sevenoaks.org know and she will pass it on to our Head of Careers, Mrs Read.

Many thanks for your help and support - David Leddington, Head of Sixth Form

3rd Annual Radnor House Golf Day - Sunday 14 June 2020

After the huge success of previous events where we have raised £4500 for our school charities, we are looking to hold our 3rd Radnor Charity Golf Day on Sunday 14 June 2020.  This year's event will take place at Farleigh Golf Club in Warlingham.  This year's charity is MacMillan Cancer Support - a charity close to our hearts in the Prep School.

This year, we are inviting as many people as possible to attend, so if you are not a golfer, you will be still more than welcome to attend the dinner and raffle prize draw afterwards.  Hopefully this will encourage families and friends to all come together to support this fantastic cause.

If you are interested in being a part of the day, please can you fill out the feasibility form attached here.  There is no obligation to take part once you have completed this form, but it is important for me to gain an idea on initial numbers.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Mr Woodward (awoodward@radnor-sevenoaks.org).

Support the Hygiene Bank

Next week Jojo and Sonny will be talking to the whole school about Hygiene Poverty and The Hygiene Bank.  Please click here for more information.

Hygiene poverty is shaming, humiliating and excluding and can result in social isolation.  Please support this charity by sending in your new, unused and in-date toiletries, hygiene basics, beauty and personal care essentials such as deodorant, shower gel, shampoo, make-up, nappies and laundry detergent.  These will be distributed to help to support vulnerable and struggling people. There is a collection bin just outside the cafe.

"Get Sorted" - New start time is Thursday at 8.20am

In response to requests, Get Sorted, the weekly organisation club is moving to 8.20am on Thursday mornings.  It is held in room 207 and Mrs Hancock and Mrs Sargent are on hand to help.  This is a great opportunity to get exercise books organised, print work and generally get organised.  "Get Sorted" is open to all of our senior students.

Celebrate Harry Potter Book Night!

Witches, Wizards and Muggles from Year 4 to Year 13 are invited to take part in our RH7 Triwizard Tournament on Thursday 6 February 4.00pm-5.30pm.  Details and ticket applications available here.

Eco-School’s Green Flag Award

As you may be aware, Radnor House is currently involved in the Eco-School’s Green Flag Award Programme, and has already achieved the Bronze Award.  We now have three topics: Waste, Litter and Energy to focus on.  With this in mind, we would like children to link our school Eco Topics to home living.  If you have a Smart Meter at home we would like children to record the amount spent on energy on a daily basis for 2 weeks, at the same time each day, maybe just before they go to bed. During the first week do not make any adjustments to the way you live.  The following week we would like children to come up with ideas of how they could reduce the amount spent, and hence energy used, by making some simple adjustments such as turning the heating down, turning the heating on later or off earlier, switching electrical items off at the mains and turning lights off as they leave a room.  We would hope to see a reduced amount spent, reflected in the smart meter recordings for week 2.  The results will then be used to help children understand how the smallest of adjustments can make a substantial difference to the energy consumed at home, through statistical analysis of the data collected at home and returned to their teachers at school.  The data collected will be used anonymously of course.  Thank you in advance to those able to support us in our Eco-Schools Programme.

Spring Typing Course - TTRS

Being able to type is a fantastic life skill.  Many of our students use their surfaces daily in lessons and we have several using laptops for exams.  Having quick and accurate typing is a bonus in both situations.  Please see details for the dates of Touch Type, Read and Spell lessons in both February half term, here, and the Easter holiday, here.  A short course is a great start to learning and for those who need a refresher before GCSE or A level exams.  Min Hancock
