The return to school

It has been wonderful to see children returning to the Prep School this week.  There was so much excitement about seeing their school, friends and teachers in addition to hand gel stations and the chance to eat a packed lunch outside!  There has been a lot of smiling and laughter from children and adults alike.

We are prioritising learning, having fun and keeping safe.  A whole team of staff are helping with the keeping safe aspect with regular cleaning of surfaces taking place throughout the day and regular hand washing sessions for the pupils.

As we are rapidly settling into these routines we are able to try a variety of different ways to connect children in school with their friends at home along with their teachers.  Year 6 Prefects for EYFS and Year 1 are also working on ways to connect with the children in their classes.

Moving up to RH7 Senior School 2021

Following the presentation Year 5 received before half term about moving up to the Senior School in Year 7, Mr Halliwell and Mr Penlington (Head of Senior School), would like to invite you to an online presentation and Q&A session on Thursday 4 June at 6pm via Zoom.  This will be the perfect opportunity for you to hear from them all about the transition from Year 6 to Year 7.

If you would like to attend please complete this form and I will then send you the link to the Zoom meeting.

Please be reminded that it is expected that all children will transfer to Y7, so you will not be required to sign any additional paperwork.  However, for setting purposes and academic scholarship awards, all Year 6 Pupils will be required to sit the Year 7 entrance tests and attend interviews in November.  Details of these will be sent to you nearer the time.

We very much look forward to meeting you ‘virtually’ on Thursday, but in the meantime, if you have any questions whatsoever, please do not hesitate to contact me (wowens@radnor-sevenoaks.org).

Year 6 News

The return to school

Year 6 were clearly very keen to return to school, and it is wonderful that we are able to spend time with them in school before they leave the Prep.  I am so proud of how well they adapted to remote learning and then re adapted to a different school experience on their return.

We very much see transition to Senior School as a process rather than an event and it is fantastic that Miss McNeely and Mr Woodward are working so hard on this with the children.  We are also lucky that Miss Wright (Head of Student Support) and Mrs Hancock, our SENCO,  are spending a day a week with your children in school so are getting to know them even better.  Transition meetings between Prep and Senior Staff will be happening weekly from now on, for an in depth handover with a focus on the children as unique and remarkable individuals along with their abilities in Maths and English.

As we are rapidly settling into these routines we are able to try a variety of different ways to connect children in school with their friends at home, along with their teachers.  I am so pleased that the pupils are taking their prefect roles seriously and thinking of ways to support and engage with pupils in the rest of the school.
