IAPS 2020 Finals

The IAPS Final, due to take place at the London Aquatic Centre on Saturday 6 June, was cancelled due to Coronavirus, and this also caused a delay in publishing the amalgamated regional results, but they have finally arrived.  Congratulations to all our competitors who took part and displayed good team spirit, enthusiasm and swimming ability as expected from Radnor House.

In the Finals, the top 20 swimmers from each individual race and top 20 relay teams would have qualified and will receive a certificate in celebration of their achievement.  Although it was disappointing that the national finals couldn’t go ahead this year, we hope that everyone is proud of what they achieved and their contribution to the Radnor Team.

Radnor House Finalists

Individuals:

Jack D 25m U10's Front Crawl 15.69

Sophia B 50m U11 Backstroke 40.47

Jacob C 50m U12 Breaststroke 43.04

Tolly M 50m U13 Backstroke 36.61

U12 Medley Relay:  Jake P/Jacob C/Max H/Preston W

U13 Medley Relay:  Tolly M/Thomas D/Harry B/Niccolo C

Well done to all our swimmers and hopefully we will get back in the pool soon.

Mrs Dudman.

Behaviours for Learning Reports Update

You will  be receiving your child's full academic reports this Friday 26 June via My School Portal this year. With regards to your child's Behaviours for Learning and Achievement report, we have taken the decision to not send this report out.  During this period of remote learning we are amazed by the many ways in which pupils have been engaging and learning.  We're aware of how vastly different everyone's experiences have been, from bad internet connections, to work commitments and the demands of family life.  Given these challenging circumstances we feel it wouldn't be right to make judgments about your child's progress in these areas.  We have been blown away by your support and your child's hard work, and are looking forward to celebrating their achievements during prize giving and our end of term assembly.  Please contact me if you have any questions.  Shona Bliss sbliss@radnor-sevenoaks.org

500 Words - Black Lives Matter

Virgin Radio have launched the 500 Words competition for this year based on the Black Lives Matter movement which is very prominent in the news at the moment.

The task is to produce a story around the theme of 'Black Lives Matter' in 500 words or less, not one word over!  These stories could be based on the children's own experiences or their perceptions from what they have seen, heard and understand.  You can make the stories as imaginative and visionary as possible.  More information can be found on the 500 Words homepage  here

The competition is only open for a short period of time and entries need to be submitted between Monday and Friday of next week.

There is no expectation for children to enter the competition, but if they would like to, then we would love to see what they create.  If they do enter, please send a copy of your children's story to their class teachers. We would love to put a whole school book together where we can share our experiences.  If you have any questions, please get in touch with Mr Woodward awoodward@radnor-sevenoaks.org

News from our Charities

We were pleased to hear from a few of our school charities this week...

Everyone at Leonard Cheshire Chipstead Lakes has remained healthy during their complete lockdown.  Only now are they allowing family members to visit, whilst staying in the garden.  It's been incredibly tough for the residents to have been without visitors all of this time, but both the staff and residents have been amazing.  They were very disappointed tht the Cyclopark cycling dates had to be cancelled (a number of Radnor House Parents and Staff had volunteered for this), but these will be rebooked, so there is no escape from that one!

Bradbourne RDA are planning to re-open the centre in early September.  All of the ponies are doing well and enjoying having some quality time outside, with sun-cream and fly masks added where necessary.  Some of the ponies have started doing a little work to support the Bradbourne Riding and Training Centre (BRTC) rides, and in order to ensure they are fit and prepared for the re-opening, they will be trained by volunteers during August.  It is still unclear when it will be possible for carriage driving participants to return.

Online Silent Auction - Only 4 days to go to get your bid inm!

Bidding closes at 8pm Sunday 28 June

Thank you to everyone who has visited the auction site already and bid for lots.  It's not only the weather that will start heating up as we enter the last few days of bidding, so please get bidding here.

Some fantastic new items have been added for the final push, so take a look even if  you have already visited the site.  There are some amazing experiences valid till the end of 2021, such as a Cessna flight over Kent, and your very own doorstep music gig, as well as games for the garden such as golf chipping nets, badminton and rounders sets, family membership to Penshurst Place  (now reopened), not to mention music, tennis, and yoga lessons, and plenty of very nice bottles of wine for those special occasions!

All profits go to our school charities.

Ben Nevis Big Climb - October 2020

Our Ben Nevis Climb is still some months away and something to look forward to for all those taking part in the challenge.  Clearly it remains a fluid situation with regards to the hostel being open.  We are keeping a close eye on the situation and delaying the final payment for as long as possible.  As we have exclusive hire of the hostel, for the trip to go ahead we rely on a certain number of participants.  As a group we will need to assess the situation and make a collective decision sometime over the summer holidays, and Becky will be in touch at that time.  If you have any questions or concerns in the meantime please contact: friends@radnor-sevenoaks.org

FUNdraising & Loose Change

The house FUNdraising activities have raised an amazing £878 to date, which is such a positive outcome from such a difficult time for everyone.  Any remaining sponsorship money or loose change collections can be paid in very easily by using the following links below to our respective house Just Giving Pages.

Newton, Churchill, Nightingale, Pankhurst

Easyfundraising

We now have 38 supporters (thank you) and edging up nicely to our target of 50 sign ups by the summer break.  It's a free scheme which many of our most popular retailers participate in. Join up here.

Friends Meeting - Wednesday 1 July @ 7pm

Anyone who would like to attend this remote meeting and participate in discussions around future events and our charities are most welcome.  The more the merrier!  A link to the meeting will be shared next week.

Have a good week everyone!

Shirt Signing

We would love for children in school to be able to sign each other’s shirts as is tradition for year 6.  Under the current conditions we need to do this in a slightly different way over the final week.  On Monday, please could all children bring in their shirt on a named clothes hanger (shirt to be named as well), and a selection of their own named sharpies.  Over the course of the week each bubble will be given a different set of shirts to sign, so that by the end of week all children will have their signed shirt.  Staff in school will also have the opportunity to sign shirts, should your child want them to.

Any questions contact me at cmcneely@radnor-sevenoaks.org
