Make A Difference Day 2023

Radnor House Community Makes A Difference

On Friday 24th March, we held our annual Make A Difference Day (MADD), when over 450 pupils and staff were off timetable and dedicating their time all day to helping others through conservation, environmental and community projects.

Based across 7 local sites, our Radnor House community collective spent over 2500 hours to Make A Difference.

Activities included the following:

  • litter picking and conservation at Lullingstone Country Park and Trosley Country Park,

  • path repairs and tidying the gardens at Ightham Mote,

  • preparing and hosting a tea party for the Rockdale Care Home residents here at Radnor

  • helping with activities for the residents of Leonard Cheshire House

  • collecting and distributing items at the foodbank run by Sevenoaks Larder

  • creating a trail and bug hotels at Willows Country Park

Fraser Halliwell, Head of Radnor, recognises that "Iearning does not just take place inside the classroom. As we prepare our pupils for life, we need to expose them to diverse experiences during which they can hone the academic ingenuity as well as a host of skills and attributes. At the centre of MADD is a commitment to our school values as we look beyond the school boundaries to support our wider community."

Year 9 pupil, Sophie, reflects on her MADD experience: "On MAD Day, the yellow house visited Willows Bird of Prey Centre, we did three activities, gardening, tyre painting and bug hotel building. I really enjoyed the tyre painting and made a tyre with a wildlife theme. I also loved gardening because the transformation was great! The bug hotel building was challenging, and we used things like decaying wood and bricks but overall, i had an amazing day and I think we really made a difference!"
