Ingenuity comes from Perseverance…

Nearly 60 years ago, JFK famously set the challenge to put humans on the Moon.  Now, NASA engineers have successfully flown a helicopter drone on Mars.

The BBC report that “[Ingenuity] was carried to Mars in the belly of NASA's Perseverance Rover”.  What a brilliant metaphor – ingenuity borne from perseverance.  The space craft’s names are testament to the determination of the NASA team to see the mission successful.  The ingenuity to achieve these feats is the product of perseverance.

Values such as this underpin an education of quality, as they equip our youngsters with the attributes to thrive in an uncertain world.  I want our children to have the courage to face their challenges and demonstrate the perseverance needed to change the world for the better.

In 1962, JFK inspired a nation with these words:  “We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills”.

The Moon, Mars…  I’m excited to see where our children’s energies and skills will lead us next.
